IRS Warns Of Spam E-mails
Posted on Fri Jan 08, 2010IRS Warns of Spam E-mails
The IRS denies responsibility for the countless spam e-mails supposedly being sent by the institution. Dianne Besunder, spokeswoman for the IRS, explains they have been receiving complaints of e-mails, which "claim certain tax re-reimbursement, a payment from economic stimulus, or even a fake notice of an alleged tax-audit." Besunder made sure to clarify that the IRS does not send unrequested e-mails and only e-mails taxpayers when they inquire about something specific. She also cautioned anyone who receives such an e-mail to ignore it and not reply. She adds it is best not to click on attachments or open any links, to avoid potential viruses. If anyone has, however, already replied to such an e-mail, or provided personal information, Besunder suggests taking care of this immediately so as to prevent ID theft.
