New Anti-Spam Legislation In Ireland - 12/28/2008

Ireland Gets Tough On Spam
New Irish anti-spam laws have made it illegal to send unsolicited mass mail for direct marketing purposes. Businesses found guilty of sending unsolicited email messages face fines of up to 250,000 euros. The new regulations are known as European Communities Regulations. "Unwanted communication, either by email or to a mobile phone is more than a nuisance – it wastes money and energy,” said Minister Ryan. “Millions [of euros] every year are lost to Irish companies through lost productivity as spam clogs inboxes and crashes servers." The Irish Government hopes that these new regulations will help ease the burden of spam.
