Tips on Troubleshooting Internet Explorer Errors

Since there are so many different types of Internet Explorer errors we will focus on a few of the most commons ways to troubleshoot Internet Explorer errors.

  • Common Errors: Common errors are the windows that pop-up when there appears to be nothing wrong with your browser and all of the websites are working when you access them. Common errors may only occur when you access a few websites. If you decide it is okay to ignore the errors you can disable script debugging to eliminate the error message. You so this by clicking on "Tools" on the main toolbar in Internet Explorer and then choosing "Internet Options" from the submenu. When the window opens, choose the "Advanced" option and select the check box next to "Disable Script Bugging" and then click "OK."
  • Website Errors: If you are receiving Internet Explorer errors when you are visiting specific websites, you can perform a test on the website from another location. You can do this by using another PC, a different browser, or a different user account to access the website. If the error still occurs it is likely it there is a problem with the authoring of the website. If the error does not occur it is possible that the problem is being caused by some of your computer settings and files.
  • ActiveX and Java Errors: ActiveX and Java are files that determine how a Web page will be viewed in your browser. If these files are blocked by Internet Explorer it will cause error messages to appear when you try to view Web pages. You can make adjustments in the Internet Explorer security settings by clicking on "Tools" on the main toolbar in your browser and then choosing "Internet Options." When the window opens click on "Security" and then choose "Default Level" and click "OK."
  • Temporary Internet File Errors: Temporary Internet files keep track of every Web page you have visited and over time the file gets to be quite large and can cause errors when you view Web pages. To remove Temporary Internet files, click on "Tools" on the main toolbar in your browser and choose "Internet Options" from the submenu. When the window opens choose "Settings" and then click on "Delete Files" and click "OK."
Identity theft comes in many forms.

A person’s identity can be 'borrowed' for the purpose of creating fictional credit cards or a person’s entire identity can be usurped to the point where they can have difficulty proving that they really are who they claim to be.

Up to 18% of identity theft victims take as long as four years to realize that their identity has been stolen.

There are many ways to protect your personal identity and many steps you can take to prevent your identity from being stolen:

*Never give out unnecessary personal information
*Never provide bank details or social security numbers over the Internet
*Always remain aware of who is standing behind you when you type in your personal credit codes at ATM machines and at supermarket checkout swipe machines.
