Opt-in Email Marketing Spam

Your business wouldn't be successful if it wasn't for your customers - It seems like a lot of big businesses today have forgotten that. Small businesses, however, realize just how important their customers are and will do everything to get in touch with them.

Email Marketing

If you run a business then you will be interested in marketing your business so that you can get to know your customers better. When devising your marketing campaign you cannot afford to overlook the importance of the internet, and of email in particular.

Email Marketing Spam

Email marketing is essential for any small business, or at least it should be. If you want your email campaign to be successful then it can be tempting to email huge numbers of people in one go. The idea about being able to promote your products to such a huge audience is popular with many people. However, this could easily be seen as spam.

Avoiding Spam

If you are using email marketing then it is very important that you avoid spam. Even though you want to be able to market to as many people as possible you cannot send emails to strangers.

The Can-Spam act was signed in 2003 and this outlines a number of very important rules regarding spam and email marketing. For your marketing campaign to be legal you must use opt-in emails which can seem like a waste of time.

Opt-in emails work by asking for a person's permission before you actually send them an email. This might seem counter intuitive, however it's the law and can actually work in your favor.

Why Avoid Spam?

You need to be careful to avoid spamming for a number of reasons. Firstly, the most important reason is because it's illegal. However, there are also other reasons to avoid accidentally spamming people.

People really don't like spam. This means that if you spam people then you are likely to give yourself a bad name. By spamming people you are likely to have the effect of driving people away rather than drawing them to you.

How to Avoid Being Seen As Spam

You must make sure that your email marketing campaign complies with the Can-Spam act. This means that you will need to ask permission before sending messages to anyone. One way of doing this is to set up a mailing list on your site. However, this might not be very good for promoting your business because by this time people have already found your website.

You will want to attract new people who do not already know about your business. To do this you will need to find a way to contact people who haven't already found you. Lead lists are one possible way of doing this.

Lead Lists

With lead lists you do not have to personally ask permission from customers or own the contacts on the list. You can purchase a lead list and these are a legal way to send emails to a large number of people.

Whichever way you use to find your contacts, you must make sure you include a link to opt out from your marketing emails. If you don't then people will get very annoyed and you will also be breaking the law.
