There is so much talk about spyware on the Internet and computers. Why does spyware occur anyway? [br]

The primary reason spyware was created was so that marketing companies can monitor every user's behavior and see what they are doing. This way the company can gear the right products in the user's direction. [br][br]The marketer realizes that people won't just tell them what they do, so they have to use secret methods to find out. Therefore, they hire programmers to create programs that will capture every keystroke and mouse movement, to see what each user does. Also, website addresses are captured so the marketer knows what websites each user visit on a regular basis. They do all this capturing of data about each user just so they know what the user's behavior patterns are. This helps them shove their best products into the eyes of each user. [br][br]The only problem is that the program does more than just capture data, it also infects the computer and forces pop-ups to show up. Each pop-up has an offer about a product the user normally wants to buy. This entices the user to buy the product. If the marketer can get the user to take some kind of action, they accomplished their of what the spyware was for. [br][br]

Many Internet users are unaware that most anti-virus programs quickly become out of date as new and more sophisticated viruses enter the world of cyber-space everyday.

Anti-virus software must be consistently updated in order to remain effective. In some cases it is necessary to buy an entirely new program to help keep your computer virus free.

Most anti-virus programs allow you to update the original program by downloading the newest and most recent updates to their virus protection system. These updates can then provide protection for your computer against new strands of viruses waiting to infect your computer.
