I booked a car ahead of time for my trip to Florida. When I arrived there, I was an hour late, due to a mechanical problem with the plane. The car rental company changed by booked rate and I had to pay a higher rate. Is this legit? [br]

it is an unfortunate situation when car rental companies change rates on you without you knowing it. This can also be embarrassing, when you pick up the car and find out it cost more than you booked, and your account won't cover any amount higher. You are left stranded at that point. [br][br]Car rental companies seem to be cracking down on late arrivals for some reason. It appears they are doing it because they feel if you are going to be late, they could put someone else in that car, and give you something later. So to penalize you, they raise the rates so you end up paying more. [br][br]In order to avoid this from happening to you, call the car rental company ahead of time, and find out if they do charge for late arrivals. Ask them if they charge a penalty for being late, or if you have to change airports, or if you have to cancel your reservation. Get this information up front and ahead of time so you will be aware of it. [br][br]

Identity theft comes in many forms.

A person’s identity can be 'borrowed' for the purpose of creating fictional credit cards or a person’s entire identity can be usurped to the point where they can have difficulty proving that they really are who they claim to be.

Up to 18% of identity theft victims take as long as four years to realize that their identity has been stolen.

There are many ways to protect your personal identity and many steps you can take to prevent your identity from being stolen:

*Never give out unnecessary personal information
*Never provide bank details or social security numbers over the Internet
*Always remain aware of who is standing behind you when you type in your personal credit codes at ATM machines and at supermarket checkout swipe machines.
