Is the Federal Government doing anything to help consumers fight identity theft? [br]

The Federal Government is taking steps to help people fight identity theft in many ways. They have a website where people can go to learn more about what the government is doing and the actions taken. This website is located at http://www.idtheft.gov/.[br][br]The Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission are each taken an active role in preventing identity theft. They do this by publishing pamphlets and other types of materials to help people learn more about identity theft, and how it occurs. They emphasize prevention as the best recourse of action to take. No, I have been fighting with both a state government and the federal government on this subject and they look away.  Unless a voice is started in Washington, nothing will ever be done about ID theft.  ID theft has a statue of limitations of 4 years.  On a credit ID theft that will work, but my problem is someone uses my fiancee's name and social and racking up felony criminal charges.  There is NOTHING that can be done about that.  As the FBI says, "you do not own your name".

Spyware has many ways of getting onto your computer, such as:

When you download programs - particularly freeware, or peer-to-peer sharing programs.

More covertly, spyware can install itself just by you visiting certain sites, by prompting you to download an application to see the site properly.

ActiveX controls. These pesky spyware makers will prompt you to install themselves while using your Internet browser
