I read you can freeze your credit. Is this true and if so, how does it work?

Credit freeze is for real. Many people are doing it and helping their cause. In fact, many states have laws in place that allow consumers to freeze their credit. The way credit freeze works is by letting a consumer restrict access to his or her credit report. By putting a credit freeze in action, you are preventing potential creditors from gaining access to your credit report. [br][br]What is great about putting a credit freeze on your credit report is that the identity thief can't gain access to your credit report, or open an account in your name. Putting a credit freeze against your credit report does not affect your credit score nor prevent you from getting your free annual credit report. [br][br]If you wish to get involved in placing a credit freeze on your credit report, you first need to see if your state has instituted a credit freeze law. Some states have done so while other states haven't. Also, some states require you to pay a fee to have a credit freeze applied to your credit report, while other states do not. [br]
