Last night i started the company backup program before I left for the night. I got a call from my supervisor before 6am telling me the backup was stopped prematurely. I came in to work earlier than normally scheduled, and found the tape itself had snapped inside the case. Obviously the tape was not of good quality. Is there anyway to tell how far the backup got before the tape malfunctioned? [br]

In this situation you can take heart in knowing your backup was captured as a log. What you need to do is run your backup software and there should be a menu or tool that will allow you to view your backup log file. This log file will normally in in text format. Load the text file and do a print out of it so you have a hard copy to refer to. [br][br]When you examine the log file, you will be able to see what filed was copied over to the tape before the tape broke. This way all you have to do is place a new tape in the mechanism and restart the backup. The program will take off with the latest file that was not copied successfully, and continue from there. [br][br]
