I realize that most backup systems use tape drives or CD-ROM drives to store the backup data. But with use of the Internet, and advances in technology, is it possible to backup your data over the Internet instead of locally? [br]

The idea of online backup was thought about a little over 5 years ago. It wasn't implemented at first because of the amount of bandwidth required, and many people had dial-up. But when broadband came on the scene, suddenly the landscape changed. Now online backup storage was a possibility. [br][br]The first company to offer online backup was Xdrive. Xdrive offers online storage of up to 5GB free storage. Other companies to follow suit was Idrive, Carboniite, U.S. Data Trust, Terian, and many others. [br][br]Each year more and more companies are offering online data storage and backup capabilities. Symantec introduced online backup capabilities in the latter part of 2007. McAFee is following suit. [br][br]

By backing up your files--personal documents, financial records, and digital pictures--you can ensure that you will never loose your precious and irreplaceable information.
