If you are using XP, you may not need external drivers, because XP has many drivers of its own it can use. However, if for some reason the hardware you purchase is not recognized by XP for some reason, you will need to install a third-party driver to operate your backup device. Many tape drive systems, especially newer ones do have drivers included with XP. But if you purchase an older model, or you have an older model in storage and you need drivers to run it under XP, you could always go to the manufacturer's website and see if they have any updated drivers available that will allow their equipment to work with XP.
