I understand antivirus programs are necessary to fight the huge amount of viruses popping up on the Internet everyday, but which one should i go for, the free one or the paid version? [br]

It is true that you need an antivirus program on your PC to stop any virus from affecting your system. But what program should you get. There are many free and paid ones on the market. But which one is best? Well to answer this question you have to evaluate each program and see what it offers. [br][br]Free antivirus programs do help eliminate some viruses, but many of them do not update themselves automatically, or even provide free updates. In many cases, you have to purchase updates. This is why the original anitvirus program is free. [br][br]If you go with a paid version like Norton Antivirus, McAFee, or MicroTend, you will find that these programs have a lot of functionality added to them that is not even in the free versions. You get automatic updates, anti-spam protection, phishing protection, spyware protection, and so much more. You may have to pay anywhere from $29 to $79 for the software, but you get your money's worth and more. [br][br]The bottom line is that it would be better to purchase the anitvirus program instead of getting a free version. At least you get more bang for your buck and better protection to. [br][br]

Spyware has many ways of getting onto your computer, such as:

More covertly, spyware can install itself just by you visiting certain sites, by prompting you to download an application to see the site properly.

ActiveX controls. These pesky spyware makers will prompt you to install themselves while using your Internet browser
