What is an infecting virus?[br]

guest - June 17th, 2009 11:28 PM

A file infecting virus is one that only attacks files or programs that end in .com or .exe. These are executable programs that perform certain functions. Some file infecting viruses may just replicate themselves and spread by infecting other programs, while there are those file infecting viruses that will destroy the program by overwriting the program's original code. [br][br]Some of these file infecting viruses will actually take over a program and when the user executes that program, the file will do damage to the PC like reformat the hard drive. This kind of virus can be destroyed, but any program that got infected will be unrecoverable. [br][br]
